Readers make writers

Writers workshops in Room 6

Literacy block

In Room 6 on Thursdays we have a busy morning with our writers workshops, illustrating our Poems and visiting the school library to get books out for home reading.

Please can you remind your child to return their library book by Thursday so they can get another one out the following week.

Today we a story called Stone Soup by Jon J Muth, This is a wonderful story about the simple things in life that make us happy. About the gift of "sharing" and how much one receives in return.  I have taken this book out for the class and would like each family to take the book home each night and read it together.
From this Im sure alot of discussion will occur and your children will "inquire" and "wonder" about certain parts of the book.

Inquiry task

Room 6 gets into character

Bookweek at PDS

Reading around the world

Month of May book challenge- how many of these books can you read with your children
Top three – Mahy, Cowley and Gee
Margaret Mahy, Joy Cowley and Maurice Gee are the holy trinity when it comes to NZ children’s authors. We couldn’t decide which story is the best. Our recommendation is for everyone to read ALL of their books – they’re the holy trinity for a reason!
